Matriarch by Kelsey Harper

You know those mornings when you wake up and feel like you need a change? When you feel it so strongly it feels as though you've outgrown your own skin? That is the what I felt continually for months. I wasn't sure if it was the lack of a season change, the stress of opening my first retail location, or just an overall feeling in the air with all that's happening around me in the world, but it hung around me always. Some days it inspired me, others it held me back from getting things accomplished that I knew were needing my attention.
I realized that my work, and how routine it had all become was really keeping me down creatively. I felt confined by making the same recipe of an arrangement day in and day out. I felt restricted by what was expected of me to deliver, and also felt that it had been copied by so many others that it didn't feel special anymore. I worked hard at creating this recipe for my business, with trial and error I found what was missing in the floral market which was consistency. One day you could order an arrangement from a flower shop, and get something great, while the next day your order would be in a different designers hands and the outcome might not be what you were hoping to send. With Flower Girl Los Angeles, I strived to create a consistent and simple way to order flowers, which allowed my clients to feel like they were safe in sending from me... after all, I did compose 99% of the arrangements that left our HQ. MY hands touched almost every vase and stem that went inside of it, and that consistency and dedication to my clients has brought me here today.
As I have grown over the past 6 years into a mother, wife, business owner, entrepreneur, teacher, and person in general, so has my desire grown to create something that is a true reflection of myself, and what inspires me as I change and grow. While still providing excellent, consistent arrangements for my clients, I am focusing on shifting my company into a lifestyle that embodies bold femininity, balance of self, capturing the small things in life that inspire the senses and creating something tangible that reflects all of the above.
For as long as I can remember, I am most inspired by travel. The nostalgia of scent, the feel of something as simple as water on my hands, or even the color of chipped paint on a wall inspires and enables me to revisit moments that I thought were long forgotten. The senses are a magical thing, they get the best of you sometimes, and for me bring a slew of emotion to my each and every day. Having a medium as sense centric as flowers to communicate with makes my "job" easy to accomplish, even on early mornings after no rest from a teething baby. Waking up and being able to use a medium that brings joy, comfort, and plain old unexpected happiness is what gets me up. The element of surprise is still alive when you receive the gift of flowers, hand delivered by a team who truly cares about your reaction.
Matriarch is meant to be the perfect medium for which to help you in using flowers to communicate. By designing a line of flowers so inspired by the sight, scent and local offerings of a place, we hope to inspire your senses, and bring you back to that special moment you had there once before.
